Trust

TRUST

TRUST is a big word that is often times misplaced in peoples lives. What do we trust in, who do we trust, where do we trust, when do we trust, why do we trust. All aspects of life are impacted by trust. Not only is life effected by trust so is eternity. We are eternal beings by by Gods design and he is preparing us for eternity. DO WE TRUST HIM?
A rich young man had his trust challenged and exposed by the Lord and it was very revealing what the Lord exposed through his conversation with him.
As we consider eternity is our trust misplaced? Read this account and see what Jesus saw when it came to this young mans trust.

Mr 10:17 ¶ And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
Mr 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God.
Mr 10:19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
Mr 10:20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
Mr 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Mr 10:22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
Mr 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Mr 10:24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

Notice several things about this young man:

– He kneeled before the Lord. Respectful with an earnest desire to do something to inherit eternal life. Good qualities by todays standard. Not wanting something for nothing, not expecting a free ride. Things most of us admire in a young man.

– He called Jesus Good master. Again looked to him as a leader maybe a master teacher of all things good. He maybe wanted to emulate his goodness thus the request to do something to inherit eternal life? Nothing wrong with this per say but Jesus does not accept his worship? Why?

– Jesus points out that only one is actually GOOD that is God. Did this young man know, really know who Jesus was, apparently not. To worship or follow a man won’t cut it when it comes to eternity, if you trust in a man even if it is yourself your trust is misplaced. Jesus knew this and wanted h this young man to know it to.

– Jesus points out several commandments to him from scripture. The young mans reply is impressive, he observed them from his youth. Wow Jesus does not contradict or challenge the young man on his answer, he believed him. Whats left, this kid is on the right track, A young man any parent would be proud of? At least by most religious standards of our day. at least according to most churches today, Live a good life and you are sure to be secure for eternity right? Obey the golden rule, you know what most preachers will tell you right? The bible says:
Mr 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
JESUS EXPOSED WHERE HIS TRUST WAS SECURED WHAT THIS YOUNG MAN RELIED UPON FOR HIS SECURITY, HE EXPOSES A FLAW, A WEAKNESS THAT WAS SURE TO BE HIS DOWNFALL UNLESS HE WERE TO SURRENDER IT TO THE LORD AND TRUST ONLY IN GOD FOR HIS ETERNAL SECURITY.

– If we were to have this same conversation with the Lord concerning eternal life, would their be something Jesus would need to expose so that you could realize there is something that stands in the way of you and eternal life. For this young man it was his possessions. His riches stood in the way of eternal life because they were more important to him than his relationship to the Lord. Riches are not the issue, when your riches possess you instead of you possessing them your trust is misplaced. Riches lose all value when it comes to eternity.

– Jesus pointed out to this young man out of love to sell all that he had, give it to the poor and take up his cross and follow the Lord. DID JESUS WANT TO BENEFIT FROM HIS WEALTH ? NO! HE DID NOT WANT THIS YOUNG MAN TO MISPLACE HIS TRUST SO HE REVEALED TO HIM WHAT HE REALLY TRUSTED IN.

– The young man goes away grieved at Jesus request because he would not give up what he trusted in. NO ONE SECURES HIMSELF A PLACE IN HEAVEN BUT WHAT HE DOES OR BY WHAT HE HAS. ETERNAL LIFE IS A GIFT FROM GOD

Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
God exposed his trust issue in order to set him free to receive eternal life, Have you been set free to receive eternal life as a Gift?

HAVE YOU TRUSTED CHRIST AND CHRSIT ALONE FOR YOUR SALVATION?
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
WHAT ARE WE TRUSTING IN?

LETS TRUST CHRIST AND CHRIST ALONE.
If you have never personally invited Christ to be your personal Saviour, would you do that today? In a simple word of prayer Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sin and place your faith and trust in him for eternal life. Take him at his word and do not go away grieved as this young man did with your trust misplaced in something you have or something you are trying to do.
TRUST CHRIST FOR SALVATION.

I Pray you will trust him today. Amen!
