A Mesage from our Pastor

I did not See this Coming

Life has a way of surprising us some times, sometimes its those pleasant surprises of meeting some one you have not seen in a long time, or maybe a little extra money coming your way totally unexpected. Maybe like the disciples being asked to feed Five thousand men beside women and children. I can not say I have experienced that but as I thought back over the last few years I certainly can say there have been some things i did not see coming.
What about you, Life ever surprised you or took you off guard, have you ever asked why?
Or maybe you have said like me Should have saw that coming, what was I thinking!
Look at Mark 6 and see what the Lord says of the disciples when they were in just such a case.

Mark 6:47-52
“47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.”

Being sent ahead by the Lord to go to the other side of the lake the disciples encountered a storm of wind making life a little difficult to arrive on the other side. Probably nothing real shocking to the disciples as most of them had spent most of their lives on the water. They were use to toiling through just such storms so no big shock right.
BUT when they saw HIM speaking of JESUS walking upon the sea toward them, they cried out the bible says. This was anything but normal! Scared spit-less God had there attention. Those I didn’t see that coming moments have a way of arresting our attention, but why did Jesus do it, were they in any imminent danger, was there life in peril? Probably not, so then why would Jesus perform such an act? Everything is for a reason with God, nothing is just random. Oh I feel like going for a walk on the water instead of by the water like most of us enjoy. The water looks inviting with all those waves beating about the boat of my disciples so I think I will go and join them.
He scares them to death and then gets in the boat and calms them down as they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure the Bible says.
Why didn’t they see this coming according to the bible?

52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.”

They helped to feed Five thousand men beside women and children with five loaves and 2 fishes and gave no consideration to what had just happened right in front of there eyes! They should have been sore amazed at this miracle but it seemed it did not phase them one bit. HOW MANY MIRACULOUS THINGS HAS GOD DONE RIGHT IN FRONT OF US AND WE MISSED IT COMPLETELY. THEN WHEN WE ARE TOILING IN OUR FAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS AND GOD SHOWS UP UNANNOUNCED WE ARE SORE AMAZED. Grant it he shows up in a very usual way but should we be surprised? Should we have saw him coming to our aid?
I have been preaching on considering Christ this last couple of weeks and never stopped to consider Christ in all his provision through the last couple years. Now I am in the middle of a fairly common challenge and am toiling and it would surprise me if God shows up in the midst of it? It really should not be one of those things that I say I did not see that Coming but I knew he was in this all along!

Is God in the midst of our storm , absolutely! Lets not let a hardened heart rob us of seeing him in what should be no surprise to us.

I know easier said than done, but God gets in our boat even when we are soar amazed at his presence and he will calm our fears and bring us to a place where we will consider the miracle of his presence.

Lets enjoy the presence of God in the midst of the Storm and not harden our heart any further.
Enjoy your Day.
