A Mesage from our Pastor

Am I Conscious of My Sin?

As Israel lives in Egypt under great bondage Pharaoh is totally okay with there plight. He sees no wrong in what he is doing to them even before Moses came on the scene. God hears the prayer of affliction coming from the heart of his people so it must have already been severe enough with out making it any worse by taking away the straw and expecting the same tally of Brick.

I say all that because I have wondered about God hardening Pharaohs heart and using him as an example for all to see. As I have pondered the events of Exodus ch. 7 – 12 over the years, I have questioned why God why so harsh with Pharaoh? I know I am wrong to questions Gods actions but I have a feeling I am not the only one who has read this portion of scripture and went WOW THAT IS HARSH! God leaves no question about the fact GOD HARDENED HIS HEART!

Exodus 7:2-5
“2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
3 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”

As I focused my attention and pondered each plague as it was warned of and delivered by Moses, you read over and over God hardened his heart, it seems Pharaoh did not stand a chance. There was this nagging thought in my mind about why God would harden his heart.
Then you come to Exodus 8:18-19
Exodus 8:18, 19
“18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.”

He is warned this is the finger of God at work but does not see it or at least ignores the warning from his own people. To this point the magicians have been able to duplicate what Moses and Aaron were doing but that stops right here.

Then you have three more plagues that were way above the magicians and you read this statement by Pharaoh in Ex. 9:27
Exodus 9:27
“27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.”
I have sinned this time? Like up to this point all that you have done is not sin?
He has Israel under cruel bondage, he was killing there first born sons every chance he could, but this time he sinned? If we could see into the heart of this man and see what God sees we might better understand why God says I will harden his heart. When people look at there lives and do not see there sin, it is first of all we are hardened toward it. He could not see his own wickedness that brought about this judgement.
When all we see when God shows himself to us is how lucky God is to have me you might have the same complex Pharaoh did. Do we see sin the way God sees it?
Do we see all the wickedness of man the way God sees it? NO NO NO we do not! We see it through our eyes and we are sinful ourselves. We need to see sin through the Holy Spirits eyes and the we will begin to see some of what God sees in our sin.
There is a reason for verses like 1 john 1:8-9 in the Bible.

1 John 1:8, 9
“8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

If you are seeing sin through rose coloured Glasses you might wanna take them off and ask God to show you sin through his eyes. We can see sin through the eyes of scripture and understand better what God is seeing when we allow the scripture to reveal our true condition. Lets give God an opportunity to help us see our wickedness from his stand point and we will find good reason to confess our sin and and allow him to cleanse us of it.
The reason so much wickedness is completely accepted and embraced today is because we are hardened in sin. God warns us in the last days that it would be this way. This means we must be ever more vigilant in our hearts to yield to Gods Spirit as He reveals our sin to keep short accounts with the Lord.
If God will harden this mans heart and make an example out of him, lets not be the next one he uses because we refuse to see our sin for what it is.

Lets be tender to the lord in this time that we live. Lets be an instrument of righteousness rather than the alternative, SIN.

Have a great day in HIM.

God Bless
